Students at Young Elementary attend music class once a week for 45 minutes. They also spend additional rehearsal time preparing for their music program. A music program is performed each month featuring a particular grade or choir. We perform for the other students during the day and for parents in the evening at PTA meetings.

Mrs. McCuistian uses state and national curriculum frameworks as a guide in the music room. These frameworks emphasize music concepts such as rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, and form. Music and songs from various cultures and folk songs are an important part of these frameworks as well.

Music activities do not just build musical skills, but they also help strengthen other areas. Some of these areas are: reading, writing, math, social studies, science, motor skills, and self-confidence.
